Youth Group

Welcome to the Youth Group section. Feel free to browse our pages and to make any positive contributions in the for of written comments, ideas, articles, photographs and any other resources you would like to share with the Youth of Pontian Communities around the globe.

The Pontian Youth Club was formally established in 2003. The aim of the Pontian Youth Club is to maintain a constant link between the clubs, the older members and other Greek and non-Greek Associations.

We contribute to our Multicultural Society through various activities, often working along side the wider community in Australia such as the Chinese Moonlight festival.

We are also proud Australian-Hellenes who actively promote the heritage of our Ancestors in the wider Australian Society through musical and dance performances.

Our recent performances include: the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion festival for ML Denim and the Melbourne Moomba Parade in front of more than 100,000 people.

Our youth club is one of the founder members of the Pontian Federation Youth of Australia. We see this as a great opportunity to unite not only within Australia but also at a global level with other Youth Federations.

We encourage all the youngsters who love the Hellenic Pontian Heritage and would like to be involved in the activities of our Club to come in contact with us. Non-Pontians are most welcome.

In the past we have organized events such as Pontian Fame Story (A Greek version of Australian Idol) and the annual Greek Sports Festival with great success. The Sport Festival brings together all the Greek Youth Associations and schools. It is held over one day and the clubs compete in two sports: indoor soccer and beach volleyball.

We thank Sofia Kotanidou and Desi Poursanidou for conducting team building workshops for our youth members. They do a great job in strengthening our team spirit, self esteem and problem solving skills in a professional and corporate environment. We look forward to their continued support.

One of the most important activities carried out by the youth is the annual collection of food for the people in need. The world is not just about ourselves ...  Even the smallest action of kindness can make a huge difference to our fellow citizens. Even children as young a 4 year olds contribute to this worthwhile activity through donations of food and toys.

The Youth Group thanks the Greek Welfare Office and the Immigration House of Thornbury for allowing us to work with them in this important activity.

Many thanks to Mr. and Mrs Margaritis
for sponsoring our Youth Club.
