The Pontian Community of Melbourne in collaboration with the GR MAGAZINE presents the new Youtube channel entitled “Yiayia & Pappou Lullabies“.

Today, due to the COVID pandemic and the strict rules of social distancing, grandparents cannot enjoy their grandchildren up close, we thought and found a way to overcome this obstacle, at least to some extent. So that, at least our grandchildren can enjoy our love through the screens. We created this channel, where we will upload fairy tales, folk legends, songs and lullabies by grandparents for grandchildren around the world to see.

Roma Siachos, Secretary of the Pontian Community of Melbourne and Victoria:
There are many channels on Youtube and as parents and grandparents we are constantly monitoring what our grandchildren see. If you can’t beat them, join them as they say. So, we thought it would be better for them to see us, and to pass on to them our language and our culture. I am very excited about this great idea and implementation and I invite you all to participate!

Our vision is to collect videos from all over the world wherever Greeks reside. We are already expecting to receive various fairy tales and lullabies from Pontic, Cretan, Cypriot, Islanders and Thracian contributions and more. Thank you to everyone who responded to our call and sent us the first videos, but our work is just beginning. You are all welcome to send us your videos at [email protected] so we can edit them and upload them to the channel. We are at your disposal for any technical assistance and advice.

Watch our videos, show them to your children, like us and press SUBSCRIBE so as not to miss the next videos!
